Seniors over 50 are redefining aging on the runway

Heels, glam, and runway walks just like any fashion show. Except every model here is over 50. For 20 years, Seniors on the Runway has brought older adults from across Georgia to the catwalk to challenge stereotypes about aging and prove that getting older doesn’t mean slowing down. What started in Atlanta with just a few models has grown into a community of more than 400 models across three states. As Georgia’s senior population continues to grow, the show is pushing back against the idea that seniors are out of touch, invisible or past their prime. For many of the models, walking the runway is about confidence, community and second chances. Some are survivors of major health scares, while others say the experience helped them rediscover themselves later in life. AJC producer Najja Parker goes behind the scenes during final rehearsals and showtime to see how Seniors on the Runway is redefining what aging looks like, one walk at a time.
